meditation

why is meditation good for blue light workers?

There is a growing body of evidence that meditation and mindfulness helps to: reduce stress; boost the immune system; helps sleep and relaxation; lowers blood pressure; and aids clarity and cognitive ability. Most people understand the benefits, but many don’t know how to start meditating.

The PTSD UK charity says that the use of meditation to successfully ease PTSD symptoms is increasing. One US study identified that twice-daily meditation alleviated anxiety, insomnia, and burnout, suggesting meditation “would be an effective strategy to mitigate rising exhaustion and burnout among health care workers.” UK Mental Health charity MIND says: “Studies show that practicing mindfulness can help to manage common mental health problems like depression, anxiety and feelings of stress. There is some evidence that mindfulness could help with more complex mental health conditions, such as psychosis and bipolar disorder”

classes and retreats

Blue Light Meditation has been running meditation classes and forest retreats for police officers and staff for the past couple of years – with fantastic results. We have offered them for free and with strong organisational buy-in and have evidence suggest that this is the best approach for people who are not used to putting themselves first.

In 2024 we hope to offer more and to the wider blue light community – including to the NHS, all emergency services and those who work in social care.

If you would us to come to your place of work or community to deliver a session, please let us know. Prices are £10 per person (minimum of 5).

If you would like to organise a Forest Retreat for a group, prices are £40 per person for a day (bring a packed lunch) or £90 per person for an overnight stay in bell tents (all food and camp bed provided). Both are based on a group of 15.

The Blue Light Club Community Interest Company is a not-for-profit registered under Company Number 15404210.

recorded meditations

Blue Light Meditation is planning on recording a series of guided meditations in a podcast. This free resource will be available on Spotify and other main podcast platforms to reach more people and help them with: sleep problems; highly active minds and over-thinking; developing “emergency” calm; breath work; grounding; compassion and empathy building; switching off, de-stressing and relaxation.
